Searching for a family day out that’s a little different? Forget the usual theme parks and playgrounds. If you’re looking for an unforgettable adventure filled with mystery, wonder, and a touch of spooky fun, then The Forbidden Corner in the Yorkshire Dales is an absolute must-visit.
I recently took the kids and we were completely enchanted by this magical attraction. From the moment we arrived, we knew we were in for something special.
What to Expect: A Labyrinth of Delight
The Forbidden Corner isn’t just a garden; it’s a labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, and follies designed to ignite the imagination of all ages. You’ll spend hours getting lost (in the best way possible!) as you uncover hidden passages and stumble upon surprising secrets.
For us, the entire day was a magical experience. We easily spent four hours exploring and could have stayed even longer. The genius of The Forbidden Corner lies in its attention to detail. Everywhere you look, there’s a new hidden element or something clever to spot
Navigating the Maze: Our Family Day Out

It’s impossible to pick a single Favorite part, but a few moments really stood out for our family:
The Spooky Entrance: The kids were a mixture of terrified and thrilled as we walked into The Forbidden Corner through a giant mouth and the tonsils gurgled and moved! It was the perfect, dramatic start to our adventure.
The Narrowing Passage: Joseph was fascinated by this unique challenge, squeezing through a passage that felt as though the whole of The Forbidden Corner was closing in around him. I feel his pain as I was terrified that I would get stuck!
The Corridors of Mystery: My personal favourite was a section with eerie corridors and stepping stones. It felt like we were in a scene from an adventure movie!
Eddie’s Favourite Part: My son Eddie couldn’t even pick a favourite part because “it was all so good!” a testament to the fact that every corner holds a new surprise.
Practical Tips for Your Visit to Forbidden Corner
Book Your Tickets Online: You can only enter 15 minutes before your ticket time, so be sure to book in advance and have your QR code ready to scan at the digital gates. We paid around £50 for our 1 adult and 2 children.
Arrive Early (and Relax!): If you arrive before your allotted time, there’s a convenient picnic area and toilets in the car park. There’s also a charming cafe where you can grab a drink and a snack.
Parking is Free: A huge bonus for a family day out! Parking is free on-site, but disabled parking is minimal.
Pushchair/Wheelchair Accessibility: It’s important to note that most of The Forbidden Corner is challenging with a pushchair or wheelchair. There are many steps, narrow passages, and tricky obstacles to navigate. If you have mobility concerns, it’s best to check the official website for specific accessibility information.
Leave Pooches at home: Luke didn’t come with us this time as dogs aren’t permitted and on this occasion I agree its not an appropriate place for our furry friends.
The Verdict: A Family Day Out We’ll Never Forget
The Forbidden Corner is more than just a place; it’s an experience. It challenges you to look closer, think differently, and embrace the unexpected. We had an absolute blast, and even though we paid around £50, it felt like excellent value for money given the hours of entertainment it provided.
We would absolutely, 100% be back! If you’re looking for a family day out in Yorkshire that’s truly magical and unforgettable, add The Forbidden Corner to the top of your list.
