Dalraddy Holiday Park: A Family Adventure in the Heart of the Cairngorms

Looking for a fantastic family-friendly and dog-friendly escape in the stunning Scottish Highlands? Look no further than Dalraddy Holiday Park near Aviemore. This isn’t just a place to park your caravan. It’s an action-packed holiday destination. It offers something for everyone, from thrill-seeking kids to parents in need of a relaxing stroll.

Getting There and Check-In

Situated just a few miles south of Aviemore on the B9152. For those traveling by car from the north, you’ll take the A9 and then turn right onto the B9152. From the south, you’ll exit the A9 north of Kingussie and follow the B9152 through Kincraig. The reception is easy to spot, and the friendly staff are ready to welcome you. The check-in process is straightforward, and we found it to be very efficient. The reception team will give you a map. They will show you to your specific pitch or accommodation. This ensures you get settled in quickly. You can start enjoying your holiday right away. The main reception and shop have extended hours during the busy summer months. This occurs in July and August. These extended hours make it convenient for both early arrivals and those checking in later in the day.

Touring and Tent Pitches

Dalraddy has a unique layout that caters to a wide variety of holidaymakers. As you enter, you’ll find the main tourist section.  The pitches were hardstanding with electric hook up and were well maintained.  They were also huge meaning we easily fitted the caravan, awning and car, along side the bikes.  For those seeking a more secluded experience, the site offers different sections. There are “hidden away” loops with just a few pitches that offer a more private camping experience. As you go further up the hill, you’ll find the cabins and lodges, which looked absolutely beautiful and spotless. We even arrived during a storm. We were impressed by how quickly the staff responded to the situation. They safely dealt with fallen trees without any fuss.

Activities

The highlight of our trip was, without a doubt, the activities. My husband and our two young boys had the time of their lives quad biking. They started with a complimentary session on a smaller track. This helped them get the hang of it. Then, they ventured out for an hour-long session on the estate’s main track. Driving through a small river was a particular thrill! My husband even got to live out his daredevil fantasies, hanging back to go top speed over a jump. The instructors were excellent, making sure everyone felt safe and had a blast.
Even though the quad biking was pricey, it was a worthwhile splurge. When compared to other places, it was still a reasonable price for the quality of the experience.

Younger children can experience the fun of the quads on the small track for just ยฃ10.

Beyond quad biking, we discovered a treasure trove of activities. The magic sled ride was an incredible value at just ยฃ5 for an unlimited amount of time. We spent a full hour and a half going up and down, and the kids absolutely loved it. For those with a competitive streak, there’s also zombie archery for the little ones and classic archery for adults.
All activities are conveniently booked at a separate desk right at the front of the campsite.

Toilets and Laundry

The largest toilet block, which was impeccably clean and well-maintained. The showers were a real treatโ€”hot with excellent water pressure. The laundry room was also a lifesaver. It had quick washers costing ยฃ4 a wash. The dryers cost ยฃ1 for 15 minutes but seemed to run for a full hour for just ยฃ3. These are probably the best ones Iโ€™ve used on site.

Wifi and Phone Reception

The only Wifi available was at the shop, you can sit outside and it there was a slightly shaded spot. It seemed to be a decent speed but did not reach the pitches. I sat on the grass opposite. I had a wine in my tumbler. I watched the kids enjoy the magic sledge while I used the wifi.
